Kaleidoscope is proud to offer classes in many styles of dance for both boys & girls ages 12 months to adults:

Ballet:
At Kaleidoscope Dance Academy, we stress the importance of ballet to all of our students. It is the root of dance our program. We offer ballet/tap combo classes for students up to the age of 7. Ballet students 7 and up enter a leveled program based on curriculum and technique. Teacher critiques, terminology lessons and classical variations are just a few of the elements that make our ballet program successful. Dancers will learn grace, manners and confidence skills. KDA Ballet follows the Cecchetti Method.

The Cecchetti Method is an internationally recognized formal method for the teaching of Classical Ballet. This graded system teaches students ballet terminology, theory, understanding and use of anatomy as well as physically training them with strength, grace and poise. Students will take exams from national examiners before proceeding to the next level.

Kaleidescope Dance Academy is active in the Cecchetti Council of America and therefore we prepare students for syllabus tests held by the Cecchetti Council of America.

The Cecchetti syllabus tests the technical and artistic accomplishments of student candidates who have been prepared by member teachers. It offers students an opportunity to demonstrate their technical ability and understanding of the material. Each level provides attainable goals that build self-confidence in their in their developmental progress and successful achievements.

EARLY CHILDHOOD DEVELOPMENT

Primary Ballet classes will develop poise and musicality in a fun and creative environment. The Primary 1 and 2 classes introduce classical ballet steps and terms while instilling the love of dance.

GRADE 1 AND II Syllabus

For students on a more serious track, the two lower student grades will develop proper placement of torso, hips and legs without exceeding anatomical limitations. The coordination of arms and heads are developed with a concentration on smooth transitions throughout the exercises.

GRADE III and IV Syllabus

A more mature sense of musicality and quality of movement is emphasized in the third and fourth levels. Students develop strength and stability in the demonstration of the pirouettes and grand allegro. Suppleness and smooth graceful movements are developed in these levels along with the coordination of head, arms, legs and body. Students present a one-minute dance for the Grade IV examination demonstrating the ability to perform through unset movements. The dance provides teachers the opportunity to help develop the student’s awareness of choreographic concepts.

PROFESSIONAL EXAMINATIONS

Elementary Syllabus marks the beginning of the professional level examinations and links the student to the final three professional levels that demonstrate Maestro Enrico Cecchetti’s work, It provides a culmination of the material in the graded work, demonstrating a mature and professional approach. In addition to adages and pirouettes that prepare the student for the more advanced levels, pointe work and the execution of beats are demonstrated in this syllabus.

THE INTERMEDIATE ADVANCED AND DIPLOMA examination material used by the Cecchetti Council of America is maintained by the Imperial Society of Teachers of Dancin.London, England. Cecchetti’s legacy and tradition continues to flourish and survive the test of time in this universal work that is shared among seven Cecchetti Societies across the world. The syllabus demonstrates the beautiful adages, pirouettes and allegro used by Enrico Cecchetti. It develops strong classical lines, solid anatomical placement, as well as virtuoso jumps and beats.

Pointe:
Pointe is a form of ballet presented on the tips of the toes. Dancers are recommended to have taken at least two to three years of ballet classes or must be at least twelve years of age before going en Pointe. This is because their toe bones are still soft and could be badly injured. It is an honor and a dream to be fitted into your first pair of pointe shoes, so start ballet early to reach your goals. Teachers must approve all dancers before they are placed in a pointe or prepointe class.

Tap:
The KDA tap program begins with students in our Preballet/tap class and continues to our adult dancers! Our teachers follow the Al Gilbert tap syllabus so all students can stay on the same track. Kaleidoscope Dance Academy offers classes from level 1-5.  Dancers practice a series of basic steps, adding more difficult combinations as they become more proficient. KDA is currently training the Fred Astaires and Ginger Rogers of the future!

Jazz:
Jazz is a form of dance which is heavily influenced by the sound, rhythm, and technique. Like jazz music, jazz dance is highly individual, with an emphasis on showcasing individual skills. Some of the most talented jazz dancers start out studying ballet. In ballet classes, they learn control, skill, and grace, and they tone and condition their bodies for dancing. KDA jazz classes are set to upbeat family approved music and concentrate on technique and choreography.

Lyrical:
Lyrical is a fusion of ballet and jazz techniques. Dancers use motion to interpret lyrics in the music and express emotion. We incorporate modern and contemporary jazz choreography with our lyrical classes. Many dancers love lyrical because it gives them a venue to express themselves in a whole new way.

Hip-Hop:
Hip-hop at KDA is fun, fast and upbeat. We incorporate break dancing, pop, and old school in our style of hip-hop. Students learn freezes, free style, tricks, choreography and more. You will always see us having fun without any provocative moves or inappropriate music. We chose to listen to family approved hip-hop music from Radio Disney or Christian Hip Hop. Our boy's Rhythm and tumble class introduces boys ages 2-5 to hip-hop, tumbling, counting and dance. Our boy’s hip-hop classes encourage boys ages 5+ to dance like a B-Boy. They work to master the skills of hip-hop with a teacher who can demonstrate it all!

Pre-Dance:
For our little dancers ages 2-3 we offer pre-dance classes that include ballet and tap. This class is 30 minutes to accommodate a shorter attention span. It is a fast passed class full of leaning games and exercise. Little dancers learn rhythm, early terminology, manners and how to adapt to a classroom setting.

Mommy & Me:
Boys and girls ages 1-2 can learn basic movement and dance with their play partners! All caregivers are welcome to join in on the fun and will learn teaching techniques to take home to incorporate movement and playtime all in one!

Acro for Dancers:
KDA is excited to offer new acro for dancers classes. In our leveled acro classes, dancers can begin to learn the basics of flexibility and cartwheels, all the way to back tucks and aerials. Acro is a great way to enhance your dance experience by adding tricks and flexibility to your choreography.

Partnering:
KDA offeres a class that is focused on male and female dancers partnering in all styles of dance. Dancers learn lifts, dancing with a partner and many other partnering skills.
